Professionally overthinking with the help of machine learning.

01 Currently

Hi, I’m Marek.

I’m doing my Master of Engineering in Applied Mathematics & Computer Science at Kumamoto University in the International Joint Education Program (IJEP), and I’m a member of the Intelligent Systems Laboratory.

My research is where machine learning meets the brain: EEG and other neural time series, signal processing, and models small enough to run where the data is.

The page runs backwards in time: Kumamoto first, then work, studies and projects.

fMRI-supervised, subject-generalizable EEG representations

My master’s research at the Intelligent Systems Laboratory (Prof. Motoki Amagasaki). The question: does spatial fMRI supervision during training help an EEG model generalize to people it has never seen, while inference still needs EEG only? Right now I’m defining the topic, reviewing the literature and reproducing a published EEG–fMRI baseline.

Sleep stage prediction from EEG

A local-first pipeline that classifies sleep stages from EEG, evaluated with strict subject-wise cross-validation. The best model so far is a CNN-GRU over log-spectrogram sequences with a fold-aware Viterbi smoothing pass, benchmarked against interpretable tabular baselines.
